Session 6 - Action Plan

This post is for the completion of the requirements for the e-learning course 5506. I chose to reflect on the following option - #1

*Reflect on how your personal learning network has changed and grown during the course of this workshop. Discuss your plans for how you plan to continue to grow your learning network and how you hope to contribute to the professional learning of your administrative colleagues.

Since beginning this course I have gained valuable knowledge regarding the importance of and the necessity for creating and utilizing a Personal Learning Network (PLN). Prior to this course, I have to say I hadn't given too much thought about my own PLN. However, after completing the last 6 weeks of instruction I see the importance and value of creating and using my own PLN. Using podcast, blogging and micro blogging will provide valuable tools for communication, learning and professional development. I would very much like to introduce my colleagues to twitter which I am confident is not being utilized to its fullest potential in my school. I am not currently an administrator but I can work closely with my principal to implement new ideas and strategies for communication among our faculty and parents.

My action plan:

1. Arrange a meeting with my current administration to discuss twitter and to collaborate on ways to introduce twitter or micro-blogging to our faculty and parents.

2. Set up a twitter account for my school.

3. Arrange a time during a faculty meeting to introduce the concept of micro-blogging to the faculty.

4. Get feedback from the faculty on ways they might use twitter. (examples - gain information from the administration, share information with the administration, communicate with colleagues, communicate with parents)

5. Use twitter to communicate with faculty, staff and parents during the upcoming school year.

After implementing the above plan, I would arrange to meet with key leaders to evaluate the use of twitter and determine if using twitter is effective or if changes should be made in order to use this tool effectively.
